Growing up in a fútbol family and playing the sport my whole life, it was essential that our first jersey reflected our culture’s heritage and brand DNA.
Jalisco is a major hub for fútbol in Liga MX. As many know, there are two main clubs in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, Chivas and Atlas. If you’re from Jalisco, your family is more than likely rooting for one of the two. My family and I are Chivistas. However, there are also lower-division clubs like Tecos and UDG (Leones Negros) that carry their own deep, rich history.
When considering which team to choose for this capsule, Tecos felt like the perfect middle ground, a club where followers of the game from all loyalties can rally behind and connect, especially given the fierce rivalries that divide the top clubs in Liga MX.
The goal was to unite people through nostalgic imagery that traces back to our childhood, whether that meant owning a classic FMF jersey from 1991–2012 (the golden era, in my eyes), or watching a match with your favorite uncle yelling at the television. Funny how we've now became that Tío.
That’s the ethos of DLP.
That feeling of pure ecstasy, screaming and jumping uncontrollably around the living room with your cousins, uncles, and aunts after Héctor Reynoso scored that golazo against América at the Estadio Azteca back in ’05.
Not everyone will understand this. But if you do, this is for YOU.
